Bye, bye, big yellow school buses. Hello, dirt paths, boats and scooters.

Around the world, getting to school is not always as simple as hopping on a quick bus or train ride. In places like Indonesia, children walk through fields of rice to get to school. In El Salvador, they walk through muddy roads.

In preparation for Global Action Week from April 26 to May 2, an annual world campaign that promotes education for all students, we have compiled photos of kids making their way to school. Below are 28 images of children attempting the worthy goal of getting an education.
