Within the past week, the struggle for civil rights in the United States has come to a head on two fronts -- marriage equality and racial equality in the eyes of the police.
While the struggle for gay rights and the plight of African Americans in the U.S. are very different issues, fraught with their own complicated legacies, can we make sense of both issues in the context of one another? Are legal avenues the best way to propel the country forward in both arenas?
