Jamie Foxx Breaks His Silence On Mayweather-Pacquiao National Anthem Backlash

Jamie Foxx Admits Parts Of His National Anthem Rendition Were 'A Little Off'

Saturday’s Mayweather-Pacquiao boxing match prompted mixed reactions to Mayweather's victory. It also spawned criticism from viewers who blasted singer Jamie Foxx over his performance of the national anthem before the fight began.

During an appearance on Tuesday’s episode of “Ellen DeGeneres Show,” the comedian-actor opened up on his much talked about rendition. Although the singer may have blamed some things "on the alcohol," his mishap on Saturday night wasn't among them.

“I sung the national anthem, now some people were a little upset by how it went down,” Foxx explained to DeGeneres. “But here’s the thing…what happened in the ring, my inner ears were out and I’m singing with an organ so I can’t hear what the organ is doing with the big crowd. So, some of it was a little off. But I think in the arena it killed. The telecast, it was a little off, but we still love America.”

Immediately following his performance, many took to Twitter to critique Foxx for his revamped performance.
