You don't have to have children to be a breastfeeding ally. That's what a group of students at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia demonstrate with their nursing-themed parody video.
Partnering with the "Building a Breastfeeding Environment" support group, the students created a music video set to Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" -- with some more ... lactastic lyrics.
"I haven’t met you / But it’s not crazy / Cause I’m a mother/ Feeding my baby" they sing in the chorus.
Though the video is from October 2014, the Mothers For Public Breastfeeding advocacy Facebook page shared it recently because the video's message about normalizing breastfeeding remains relevant. "We know that although many students in university are accepting of the benefits of breastfeeding, and plan to breastfeed their own children, it is still not considered acceptable to breastfeed publicly," the YouTube description states.
"This video also shows that even those who are not parents, or breastfeeding mothers can be and are supportive of breastfeeding in public!"
