Joe Scarborough Says Rick Santorum Has 'Best Message'

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said Thursday morning that of all the 2016 Republican presidential candidates, former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) leads in one way.

"Regardless of what people think about Rick, and I know a lot of people in Manhattan may not like him, he's got the best message -- the best economic message -- for Republicans," Scarborough said.

Santorum announced Wednesday that he will run for president in 2016, the second presidential campaign for the former senator. In his speech, he hammered a strong blue-collar message, pledging to stand up for the middle class and protect American workers.

But Santorum's biggest obstacle may be how unlikeable he has become. He has been widely criticized and disregarded by many for taking a firm stance against same-sex marriage and abortion.

Frequent "Morning Joe" guest Donny Deutsch agreed with Scarborough.

"I really respect that the guy says what he believes, and there is an honesty and a directness," Deutsch said. "I disagree with a lot of his views, but the man at least stands for what he believes."
