Young children are usually the ones looking up to firefighters as heroes, but a brave six-year-old was the one who saved the day in south central Pennsylvania this week.
The Lancaster Township Fire Department was called to the scene of a kitten stuck in a storm drain on Tuesday afternoon, but "due to the confined space, no adults were going to be able to reach the kitten," which was two and a half feet down, the department posted on Facebook.
A girl named Janeysha, whose mother originally called the fire department, volunteered to be lowered into the drain.
The scared kitten posed for a picture with her rescuers, Deputy Chief Usdin and Janeysha.

“I thought the kitten was going to bite me, but I picked it up softly and I gave it to the firefighters," she proudly says in the video above from WPXI news.
The kitten, now named "Stormy," was taken to a shelter and is now available for adoption.
Storm drains seem to be a common place to find animals in Lancaster Township. Just last week, the same fire department rescued 10 ducklings whose worried mother was looking down on them from the street above.
