Sen. Angus King Reveals He Has Prostate Cancer

Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) announced on Monday that he is being treated for prostate cancer.

"During an annual checkup this spring, my doctors caught prostate cancer," he said in a statement. "After studying all of my options, and in consultation with my doctors and my family, I’ve decided to have surgery at the end of this week to remove the cancer."

The disease was caught early, King said. He expects to make a full recovery.

"When you see me on the Senate floor in a couple of weeks, or during the August work period in Maine, or on the campaign trail in a couple of years, you will see that I’m back to work with as much energy and dedication to serving you that I promised nearly three years ago," he said. "I will return with a renewed sense of commitment to standing up for the people of Maine.”

King is also a survivor of skin cancer.
