LGBT Couples Share Their Travel Experiences In Airbnb's Moving New Short Film

Lesbian, gay and transgender couples open up about their travel experiences, good and bad, in a moving new video for Airbnb.

Titled "Love is Welcome Here," the short film casts the spotlight on a number of couples who've made foreign and domestic travel a part of their annual routine. The aim, officials say on the Airbnb YouTube page, is to help "create a world where all love is not only accepted, but welcomed, everywhere we go."

From the sounds of it, however, there's still a lot of work to be done. "Planning a honeymoon as a queer couple, we have to be really careful where we go," one woman notes. Meanwhile, a transgender man acknowledges that he and his girlfriend appear to be a straight couple to unassuming customer service types, but asks, "If these people knew we were queer, would these people talk to us, would they be kind to us?"

Earlier this year, Airbnb removed a Texas bed and breakfast from its listings after its host reportedly kicked out a gay couple. In addition, the company reportedly paid for a night at the hotel the couple ultimately stayed in, and refunded their money.

"We have a zero tolerance policy for discrimination on Airbnb," a spokesman said at the time. "The host in question has been removed from the site. Airbnb has clear guidelines that a host or a guest may not promote hate or bigotry."
