Despite a celebratory weekend for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) commmunity, one dad's sobering story is reminding us how far we still have to go to make life better for queer people everywhere.
Dad David Flanagan just completed the 2015 AIDS/LifeCycle ride, an annual 7-day bike trek from San Francisco to Los Angeles that raises money and awareness for the fight against HIV/AIDS.
YouTuber Davey Wavey went on the road with Flanagan to help him share his son's story and get first hand experience in the AIDS/LifeCycle event. For Flanagan and his wife, who was a roadie on the trip, the experience is extremely personal, as they recently lost their son Joshua to HIV/AIDS.
"If you think that you might need to be tested or you come across a situation where you might need to be test, please go ahead and do it," Flanagan urges viewers in the video. "Please be honest with the medical people. And if you get tested and you are positive, you can get treatment... this should not happen again."
