Some Spotify Services Down After Apple Music Launch [UPDATE]

UPDATE: 3:20 p.m. -- A Spotify spokesman told The Huffington Post Wednesday afternoon that service has been restored.

Spotify is scrambling following the launch of Apple Music.

The popular music streaming service has been unable to process either new sign-ups or subscription cancellations in the hours following the release of Apple's competing product. Apple Music launched Tuesday; Spotify's subscription management options were still down early Wednesday.

A spokesman for Spotify told The Huffington Post the timing was a complete coincidence -- but a flood of users on social media are voicing their skepticism:

Currently, if you try to cancel Spotify or sign up for a new account, you receive an error message that says "We'll be back real soon, promise."

The Spotify spokesman elaborated on the problem in a statement to HuffPost:

"We are having technical issues with our sign up flow and payment systems and this is affecting some new users ability to subscribe to Spotify Premium and some current users management of their accounts," he said. "Our team is working to resolve this as soon as possible."

When asked if customers who couldn't cancel -- and were billed for -- their $9.99- per-month premium plans during the outage would be able to receive refunds, he was not able to offer an immediate answer. Presumably, that's a pretty slim portion of people -- you're billed monthly depending on the date you signed up -- but it's possible you're one of them. You can use this form to contact Spotify support.

Meanwhile, if you haven't taken the plunge and joined a music streaming service yet, there are plenty of options to consider.
