Reports on Monday morning that a shot was fired at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, turned out to be false, police said.

The Montgomery County Police Department said in a press briefing Monday afternoon that there was no evidence of a firearm discharge. Around 10:30 a.m., authorities said they received a phone call of a possible shot fired, sending Walter Reed into a lockdown for several hours. Police combed through buildings, escorting employees out room by room. Bomb-sniffing dogs were also brought in to detect any potential explosive devices.
