This Shoe Might Solve An Annoying Summer Problem All Parents Know Too Well

Pouring sand out of your kids’ shoes is so yesterday. At least that’s what the creators of SandOut Shoes have in mind.

SandOut Shoes filter sand and keep kids’ feet comfortable and dry. Mark Matthews, the company’s chief content officer, said it’s all thanks to a system of draining channels within the sole of the shoe.

"The removable insole serves as a sort of sieve, allowing sand, water and air to pass through and then channel through the sides of the shoe," he said in an email to The Huffington Post. "Having it filter through the sides keeps the bottom of the sole intact so that it continues to protect the feet from puddles and other ground hazards."

The shoe’s design allows sand to be filtered as kids play. For parents, that means less time spent ridding the house (or car) of sand.

"This truly is the number one benefit for parents, and it was parents in mind that created this product," Matthews said. "Think of it as a children's shoe made specially for parents."

Other perks that come with filtering out the sand and water include protection from blisters and increased ventilation. Little feet aren't the only ones getting the SandOut treatment though. Matthews explained that some of the larger children's sizes overlap with adult women's sizes. The company also offers a selection of adult flip flops with the same SandOut technology.

Currently, SandOut Shoes is running a KickStarter campaign to promote the shoes and hooking potential buyers with a comical video detailing a parent's true struggle of dealing with sand at the playground.

If the KickStarter is successful, the company plans on creating an adult line of athletic and boat shoes. But first they're taking on kids' shoes, one grain of sand at a time.
