Domino's Pizza was the fastest-growing major restaurant chain in America in the first quarter of this year, according to a Forbes analysis of publicly-traded food service companies.

Same-store sales growth -- a crucial measure of the annual growth in sales at stores open at least a year -- at the pizza chain was a whopping 14.5 percent in Q1. The runners-up were Shake Shack and Chipotle -- two chains that are cited as paragons of rapid growth far more often than Domino's -- with same-store sales growth of 11.7 percent and 10.4 percent respectively.

Because Forbes only looked at chains listed on the stock market and did not account for growth in the number of restaurant locations, the list was noticeably different than the annual list of fastest-growing chains put out by Nation's Restaurant News (NRN). Sub purveyor Jersey Mike's ranked first on this year's NRN list, and Chipotle came in second.
