Jimmy Fallon Gets Heartfelt After Revealing He Almost Lost His Finger

It takes a lot to bring Jimmy Fallon down, but almost losing a finger and a lengthy stay in the ICU is just about enough to do it.

At the end of June, "The Tonight Show" host suffered a mysterious hand injury right before the show went on a two-week break, and on the first show back Monday, we finally got the gruesome details. After tripping on a carpet, Fallon says his ring got caught on a table and he suffered something called "ring avulsion." For those who don't know what it is, don't Google it. Fallon warned the images are pretty disturbing, and we didn't listen to him. (Oh gosh, why didn't we listen to him?!)

The comedian learned while at the hospital that the "odds aren't great" with the injury, and he might actually lose his finger.

After a successful surgery, 10 days in the ICU and multiple viewings of the teen comedy "The DUFF," which is enough to make anyone a little emotional, Fallon says he finally learned the meaning of life:

I think this is the meaning of my life. I belong on TV, and I should be talking to people who are watching who are either in an ICU or wherever you are at home or if anyone’s suffering at all, this is my job. I’m here to make you laugh. I want to make you have a good time.

Check out the entire story in the video, and we repeat, do not Google "ring avulsion."

"The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
