Terminally Ill Boy Gets Early Avengers-Themed Halloween Party Fit For The Mightiest Hero

This community came together to make sure one boy could live his final months to the fullest.

Billy Lee, a 5-year-old who lives in Houston, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer, about two years ago, according to Today.com. The 5-year-old's disease is no longer treatable and he has a little more than a month to live, KTRK reported.

Since the boy's favorite holiday -- one that's still months away -- is Halloween, people in his community, along with his parents, Chris and Kellen, helped him celebrate early and threw him an "Avengers"-themed party this past Saturday, according to the outlet.

"He's happy. It makes us happy to see him smile," Chris told KTRK during the party. "That's the point of everything we do."

The Halloween celebration was complete with cake and neighbors dressed as superheroes, the outlet reported. Billy, himself was dressed as Iron Man, one of the Avengers. Strangers even took the time to make custom Avengers-themed decorations and donate them to the party.

While Billy was able to enjoy the special day thanks to the compassion of people in the community, it's not the first time the boy was met with an outpouring of support. His parents, who quit their jobs to spend their son's remaining days with him, created a GoFundMe campaign early last month to allow them to fulfill Billy's last wishes.

People across the internet were moved by the child's story and smashed through the campaign's original goal of $15,000 -- eventually donations topped $27,000; more than the revised goal of $25,000. With that money, Chris and Kellen took Billy on a two-week trip to Florida where they visited Disney World as well as the Universal Theme Parks.

The support, the family says, has been incredible.

"It feels amazing to see the good come out in people," Chris told Today.com. "It's been a long couple of years … our plans for the future are to just be with our son and to make him as happy and pain-free as possible."
