4-Year-Old Cancer Patient 'Marries' Her Favorite Nurse

They sealed the deal with a ceremonial exchange of ring pops

Chemotherapy treatments aren't something most people look forward to.

But thanks to a nurse by the name of Matt Hickling, 4-year-old Abby Sayles doesn't seem to mind them. She especially looked forward to her session last Thursday, when, thanks to the hospital staff at the Albany Medical Center, she "married" Hickling in an impromptu wedding:

Video of the lighthearted ceremony, shared on the Albany Medical Center's Facebook page, shows Abby entering the hospital room along with a handful of nurses who served as bridesmaids.

A local florist donated a bouquet, corsages and a boutonniere for the occasion, reports the Albany Times Union, along with a puppy-shaped basket of flowers.

While the "groom" didn't have a suit for the occasion, he did sport the next best thing: a tuxedo t-shirt.

"Our patient shyly asked me to marry her," Hickling recalled in a post on his Facebook page. "I didn't hesitate to say yes, I got a HUGE hug and we sealed the deal with ring pops being placed on our fingers!"

"So today I got to help make a 4 year old leukemia patient's 'wedding' to her favorite nurse happen at the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancers at [Albany Medical Center]," one of the nurses, Lori Ciafardoni, wrote on Facebook.

"Thanks to Scott Wright the team at the Enchanted Garden for donating your time and amazing flowers and to everyone at AMC that helped pull this together in less than 24 hours."

"You people are amazing," she added. "THIS is why we go into nursing."
