After dealing with their toddler's temper tantrum at a restaurant, vacationing parents were shocked to discover their bill had already been covered, courtesy of a complete stranger.
According to ABC 11, Melissa Wistehuff was eating at Sammy’s Seafood House in Morehead City, N.C., while on vacation with her family when her 2-year-old son Ian started throwing a tantrum.
"He was screaming, crying, kicking, so I immediately got up and got him out of his high chair and took him out of the restaurant," she told ABC 11. "And of course feeling like everybody’s judging and rolling their eyes and looking at me."
Wistehuff, who also has a 5-year-old and 7-year-old, returned once Ian calmed down, but he soon got worked up again. This time his dad took him outside, and Wistehuff asked the waiter for the check only to find out it had already been covered.
"He said that our check had been taken care of by another patron in the restaurant," she told ABC 11. "And I said, ‘What? You’re kidding. Why would they do that?’ and he said they just really admired how we had handled the situation."
Wistehuff's experience comes after a mother complained about a diner owner in Maine who yelled at her crying 1-year-old. The situation has sparked a conversation on the diner's Facebook page with commenters both defending and criticizing what the owner did.
As for Wistehuff, she is simply moved by the kind acts she witnessed at the restaurant. She told Yahoo Parenting that the strangers who offered support, including the nearby patrons who covered the tip because Wistehuff had no cash, left a huge impact on the family.
"They completely changed our night."
