'Grown Ups' Director Defends Adam Sandler: 'I Don't Give A F**k What Critics Think'

Director Dennis Dugan knows his film collaborations with longtime friend Adam Sandler aren't always a hit with critics -- but that doesn't mean he has to agree with them.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dugan defended himself and Sandler from the critical onslaught they've faced for the better part of a decade.

"I don't give a f**k what [critics] think," he said. "I give a f**k that almost every one of my movies opens up number one and makes a giant profit for the studio, and people buy them, rent them, quote them and have a good time seeing them."

After frustration with reviews for his early films, Dugan swore off reading them entirely. Still, he had some choice words for "Grown Ups" haters in the THR interview, which commemorated the 25th anniversary of his film "Problem Child."

"To hate 'Grown Ups' is just ludicrous," Dugan said. "It's a funny movie. We didn't mean it to be anything else but a hang-out movie, where you go sit down and get a lot of laughs from a bunch of guys just hanging out."

Dugan and Sandler have worked together on eight films, including "Happy Gilmore," "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," "Jack and Jill" and both "Grown Ups" movies. The director also said that a third "Grown Ups" installment has been discussed, though he doesn't "know where that stands." To date, Dugan's films have grossed over $1 billion.
