Kids Get Handcuffed At School More Often Than You Think

It's alarming how many instances you can find with a quick online search.

The ACLU filed a federal lawsuit earlier this week against the Kenton County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky, alleging that a school resource officer unlawfully handcuffed two children with disabilities.

This incident isn't as rare as you'd imagine. A simple Internet search reveals numerous examples of students being handcuffed at school in just the past six years.

Most of the children who were handcuffed had autism, and several others had behavioral problems.

The ACLU says shackling children at school exacerbates their disabilities. The organization instead calls for law enforcement to learn de-escalation skills when working in an educational environment.
