Philadelphia Eagles fans will be holding their breath and saying their prayers every time Sam Bradford drops back to pass this season, but one group of fans wants to get a head start on the latter.

Consecutive season-ending knee injuries have wiped out much of Bradford's previous two NFL seasons, which have made Eagles fans nervous about their newly acquired franchise quarterback. At least some of them, however, are hoping a visit from Pope Francis could change all that.

The pope is scheduled to be in Philadelphia on September 26 and 27, which has led Eagles fans to implore him to bless Bradford's knees. A Change.org petition begging for the Pope's blessings had over 3,400 signatures on Tuesday.

Eagles fans really, really want the pope to help them out:

With this Eagles season coming up, a lot of our Super Bowl hopes rely on Sam Bradford's knees staying healthy. So, with one of the most religious representatives in the world visiting our wonderful place we call home, how about we get him to bless Bradford's knees during his visit to Philly! This town deserves a Super Bowl, and a healthy Bradford is the only way we will have a parade down Broad Street!

For his part, Bradford is cool with it.

"If I got to meet the pope, I think that would be pretty cool," Bradford said to reporters on Tuesday. "If he wanted to bless my knee, then I’m all for it."

The Eagles play the Jets in New Jersey on September 27. Perhaps Bradford can receive some papal protection before boarding the team bus?
