7 Celebrities Embracing Fatherhood After 50

Crooner Billy Joel became a father again this past week when his 33-year-old wife, Alexis Roderick Joel, gave birth to a little girl, Della Rose. At 66, Joel may seem to be on the older end of the spectrum when it comes to caring for a newborn.

But there are plenty of reasons why we think he'll be just fine.

Being an older parent brings a number of benefits. You have more life experience and -- if you're already a parent, like Joel -- you've had a lot of practice as well.

Joel isn't the only father around -- especially in Hollywood. Here are seven celebrities who embraced fatherhood later in the game, proving parenting after 50 is just as rewarding as parenting at any age.

The "Star Wars" filmmaker and his wife, Mellody Hobson, became first-time biological parents when a surrogate gave birth to their baby daughter, Everest, in 2013. Lucas also has three adopted children.

"By the time she's 5, she'll have her own career going and being in school and talking about her friends and her homework," Lucas said in a 2015 interview, showing he knows time does fly. Good thing he's now retired from full-time movie making and probably will have plenty of free time to spend with Everest.

The funnyman welcomed his first child at age 67, with wife Anne Stringfield, in 2013. Martin said fatherhood was "going great" thanks to Stringfield, but added he was a "responsible dad" himself.

The actor found both love and fatherhood later in life. Ford started dating actress Calista Flockhart in 2002, the year he turned 60. Flockhart had adopted son Liam the year before and Ford went on to legally become his father. Ford was already father to four children when Liam came along and said his son made him "less self-centered" and added now that he's on his fifth child, he's "more mature."

The former late-night TV host has one son, Harry, born in 2003, when Letterman was 56. When asked about his retirement, Letterman said he was looking forward to spending the summer with his son and not having to worry about his work schedule dictating the family's summer plans. Just another one of the perks of being an older dad.

Baldwin has embraced fatherhood in his 50s again with the birth of his two children with wife Hilaria. The couple welcomed their second child together this summer, a baby boy. They also have one daughter. Baldwin has one daughter, Ireland, from his marriage to Kim Basinger. Baldwin called fatherhood in his 50s a "second chance."

Elton John became a parent to both of his sons after age 60. His son Zachary, the first child for him and husband David Furnish, was born via surrogate in 2011 and their second son Elijah was born in 2013.

It's safe to say Willis knows a thing or two about women. The 60-year-old actor has five daughters -- three from his marriage to Demi Moore and two with wife Emma Heming. His youngest two daughters were born when he was in his 50s and he seems to be taking it all in stride.

"I’m happier than I’ve ever been," he said in an interview after the birth of his fourth daughter. "I’m changing diapers like a champ... I'm glad I've stayed in good shape over the years. I still have a lot of energy left...I think I'm even more open and more giving as a father now. I pay more attention now because I value it more and I'm less caught up with my career."
