A Missouri woman has been arrested on charges that she tried to hire an undercover officer to kill her husband’s pregnant girlfriend.

Sherri Marie Densing, 34, of St. Charles, was charged Thursday with conspiracy to commit murder and distribution of a controlled substance. She remains jailed in lieu of a $1 million cash-only bail.

According to the St. Charles Police Department, authorities were tipped off earlier this week that the woman was looking into a murder-for-hire plot.

"Somebody had been talking to the suspect and the suspect made some comments that concerned them, so we assigned a detective to look into it," Captain Don Thurman told The Huffington Post.

According to Thurman, an undercover police officer posing as a hit man met with Densing on Wednesday. During the meeting, which the police secretly recorded, Densing reportedly told the officer she wanted him to kill her husband's girlfriend and the woman's unborn child.

Densing allegedly provided the undercover officer with photographs of the victim, keys to the victim's residence, several vials of morphine and $60 in cash to purchase a gun.

Thurman said authorities are still trying to determine the extent of the apparent love triangle. "We don't know if she suspected it was a one-time thing or an ongoing affair," he said.

The intended victim, who authorities say is 24 years old, has not been identified.

At this time, Thurman said, the department is not releasing the video of the meeting between Densing and the undercover officer, or any other details.

"We're still working on the investigation to see if there is any continuing danger to the victim," he said.
