Marley McKenna Spindler, 16, was last seen Aug. 20th at a Chick-Fil-A in Surfside Beach around 7:30 a.m. Spindler's last communication was at 8:42 a.m. when she sent her friends a group text. The girl's father, Jayson Spindler, told FoxNews.com the text message said she was being followed.

"We don't know if it's true, but she did send that text," Spindler told the station.

After leaving breakfast with her friends, Spindler went to pick up a friend named Jeremy who was drunk at the time, Lt. Raul Denis of the Horry County Police said in a statement. Though police said they were looking to speak to Jeremy, authorities have now cleared his name in the case.

Prior to her disappearance, Spindler took out less than $100 from a bank and was captured on surveillance video in a different change of clothes, WBTW reports. The teen's vehicle, a 2002 silver Ford Escape with the license plate tag KFI-776, has also gone missing.

Despite the ominous text, police said they don't suspect foul play at this time.

"It’s very uncharacteristic of her to be gone," her father told FoxNews.com. "We love her and we're proud of her and we need her to come home safe."

A Facebook page has been set up to spread awareness. Spindler is described as 5 feet 8 inches and approximately 100 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.
