Man Brings Human Skull To Florida Grocery Store: Police

"He was using it as a puppet."

Heads up on aisle five!

Shoppers at a Sebastian, Florida, grocery store called police on Tuesday when a homeless man walked in carrying a human skull, according to WPBF.

"He was using it as a puppet," witness Nick Pecoraro told the station. "It smelled like death."

Authorities with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office determined that the man had found human remains in the wooded area near U.S. 1 where he was living, the Palm Beach Post reports.

Police said the man claimed that he brought the skull to the Publix store to alert someone to call police.

“The body was deteriorated for so long that the skull was simply sitting there with the rest of the bones,” Indian River County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Thomas Raulen told WPBF.

Raulen said that it was unlikely the body was decapitated, but it was too early to determine a cause of death.
