It's an age-old question: Which culture has the best diet, and how can we emulate it?

Perhaps the best option is the Mediterranean diet, filled with lots of healthy oils and fresh vegetables. Or maybe it's the Japanese diet, with plenty fish and lean proteins. While many diets like these have been hailed as having significant health benefits, adopting just one diet is not the solution, according to certified nutritionist Gena Hamshaw.

In the video above, Hamshaw explains why fad diets and vilifying certain foods can actually discourage people -- and why we need to look at the big picture of our food intake instead.
