Fox News host Shepard Smith ridiculed NBC for inviting Donald Trump to host “Saturday Night Live” just months after the network cut ties with the reality TV star.
“NBC and Comcast didn’t want to be associated with Donald Trump,” Smith said on “Shepard Smith Reporting” Tuesday. “So what’s he doing? He’s going back on NBC.”
After Trump made disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants in June, NBC dropped the Trump-owned Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants and fired the businessman from “The Apprentice.” “Due to recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its relationship with Mr. Trump,” the network said in a statement at the time.
But NBC has had a change of heart, announcing Tuesday that Trump has been invited to host the comedy program on Nov. 7. Trump previously hosted the show in 2004.
Smith further mocked the network, saying NBC “did a great job” in holding fast to its commitment.
“We’re all proud of you, NBC!” Smith said. “You made a stand! You stood for your values! You did what you must! Forget the money! No more Trump, except -- more Trump!”
