Dummy Tries To Put Out Fire With A Van Full Of Ammunition

"Well, you can see how that turned out."

Here's how NOT to put out a fire.

When a Missouri man burning trash in a field accidentally set fire to the brush, he tried to extinguish the flames by driving over them... in a van loaded with ammunition.

"Well, you can see how that turned out," the Clay County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook along with some images of the blaze, which took place near the city of Liberty:

First the van's tires caught fire and then the rest went up, including all that ammo.

"Ammunition in that burning car began discharging so (the responding officer) and responding firefighters kept their distance until it was safe to extinguish it," the department wrote.

The van was burnt to a crisp:

Eventually, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

The fire department did not name or cite the van's owner. The Kansas City Star reports the owner also did not want to file a police report for insurance purposes.

“It seems like he’s just going to have to take a loss on that vehicle because I don’t think they’re going to cover it,” Jon Bazzano, a spokesman for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, told the newspaper.
