OutKast Maybe Could Have Prevented That Super Bowl Wardrobe Malfuction

One-half of OutKast appeared on ESPN's "The Dan Le Batard Show" Thursday and revealed that the duo was once asked to perform at the Super Bowl. According to Big Boi, we can all blame André 3000 for the halftime show that never was -- he refused to cut down his songs to fit the allotted time space.

"He said, 'Nah, can’t do it,'" Big Boi recalled of his writing partner. "We look at it now and we laugh. Hopefully they invite us back."

But had they said yes, they might have prevented the infamous 2004 "wardrobe malfunction" between Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake, Pitchfork notes.

Big Boi didn't say when they were asked to perform, but the two songs he named -- "The Way You Move" and "Hey Ya!"-- were both released in 2003 at a time in Super Bowl halftime show history when organizers were booking more of-the-moment talent. The few years leading up to that 2004 onstage accident saw artists performing top tracks generally no more than a few years old. But who performed in 2005? Paul McCartney. Singing "Hey Jude." The next few years saw The Rolling Stones, Prince and Tom Petty onstage -- hardly new talent.

Big Boi admitted that he tried to change André's mind "a lot," but doesn't hold it against him.

"It's bigger than music with us," he said.
