This Astronaut's Bagpipes Performance Is Out Of This World

He played "Amazing Grace" as a tribute to his late friend and colleague.

Bet you never thought you’d hear "Amazing Grace" played with bagpipes in space.

NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren played a rendition of the hymn aboard the International Space Station. Watch those tassels flutter in microgravity!

This was the first time the instrument has reached space and technicians made this particular set lighter and easier to clean, the Guardian reports.

The performance was a tribute to Lindgren's friend and colleague Victor Hurst, who died in October.

"He always had a quick smile, a kind word," Lindgren told the BBC. "I don't know if anyone was more enthusiastic and professional about being involved in human space flight."
