CNN Reporter Suspended After Making Twitter Observation Over GOP Bill

"My tweet was inappropriate and disrespectful. I sincerely apologize."

A CNN correspondent has reportedly been suspended for two weeks after making an observation about the GOP's refugee bill on Twitter in what's been called a partisan tweet.

Elise Labott, the network's global affairs correspondent, commented on Thursday's Republican-led House vote that seeks to severely restrict the admission of Syrian and Iraqi refugees into the U.S.

"House passes bill that could limit Syrian refugees. Statue of Liberty bows head in anguish," Labott tweeted alongside a link to the CNN story covering the vote.

The journalist suffered almost immediate Twitter blowback following her post, with Washington Post media reporter Erik Wemple questioning if it was in line with CNN's non-partisan editorial guidelines:

Other social media users also chimed in with a slew of comments.

Some were negative, like these:

Others, however, supported Labott's stance:

Wemple later reported that Labott had been suspended for two weeks. The claim was confirmed to Politico by a source at CNN.

Labott herself later took to Twitter to apologize for the post, although made no mention of the reported suspension. CNN has also not yet confirmed the disciplinary measure.

"Everyone, It was wrong of me to editorialize. My tweet was inappropriate and disrespectful. I sincerely apologize," she posted.

Thursday's vote came in the wake of last Friday's terror attacks in Paris that left 129 dead. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The large majority in the vote, which included 47 Democrats, means it may be able to override President Barack Obama’s promised veto.

The bill still faces an uncertain future, however, as Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has said he’ll do his best to block it .
