A Toronto-based drag queen recently broke a Guinness World record, taking the title of "World's Oldest Performing Drag Queen" at the age of 84.

According to The Toronto Star, Michelle DuBarry received the honor in late November after celebrating her 84th birthday. She began dressing in drag long before the art form hit the mainstream, and reportedly before Toronto's gay scene could even publicly surface.

“I’ve always had the love of the stage,” DuBarry reportedly said. “I had two sisters and the three of us were always put out singing to the women’s groups or to the hospital -- Christmas time, whatever. And then I got dressed up in drag. I didn’t know anything about drag then. We got dressed up like girls at the high school Halloween night. And then, when I got into the city in the 1950s, I got involved in theatre and ballet. I was a ladies’ shoes salesman and started doing underground dress-up.”

As we anticipate the premiere of "RuPaul's Drag Race" season 8, it certainly is refreshing to be reminded that there are are queer individuals who have been involved in this art form for literally decades.

The Toronto Star did a fairly extensive interview with DuBarry -- head here to read it in full and check out some other photos of the performer below.

Congrats, Michelle!
