Muslim Man Hands Out Presents To Homeless People For Christmas

"I think sometimes we forget that some people aren't that fortunate to be able to spend Christmas with people they love."

This YouTuber used the holidays to show what the giving season is all about.

Nubaid Haroon, a 23-year-old from the U.K. who has a YouTube channel called "Rambo Vlogs," took to the streets just before Christmas to hand out gifts to homeless people -- an act which was documented in a video. Haroon, who is Muslim and doesn't personally celebrate the holiday, he said he wanted use the occasion as an opportunity to give back to those who cannot be with friends and family.

"I think sometimes we forget that some people aren't that fortunate to be able to spend Christmas with people they love," Haroon says in the video. "As people we need to try a little bit more to spread equality. It's not a matter of someone's race or job title or gender. At the end of the day they're human."

In the clip, he hands out blankets covered in wrapping paper to homeless people he sees and exchanges a few words and hugs with them. Among the people he encounters is Teddy, who became homeless after losing his job and family, and Catharine, who was left homeless after her husband left her and she lost her child, according to the video.

While a few people were a bit confused as to why someone who doesn't observe the holiday was giving out presents, Haroon explained to TakePart that his kind gesture was all about challenging stereotypes and bringing out the true meaning of holidays -- something everyone can get behind.

“I think that a lot of people think because Muslims don’t celebrate Christmas that we don’t accept it when people celebrate Christmas,” Haroon told the outlet. “But in reality my family gives chocolates and food to neighbors/friends regardless of their race/religion. It’s just about being one with the community.”

Ultimately, Haroon hopes he made some people feel loved.

"Hopefully I made a few people smile on the streets," he said in the video. "And hopefully they feel like they've got a friend in me this Christmas."
