Gael García Bernal has won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy for his role as Rodrigo De Souza in "Mozart in the Jungle."

Surprisingly, Bernal beat out Aziz Ansari in "Master of None," Rob Lowe in "The Grinder," Patrick Stewart in "Blunt Talk" and critic favorite Jeffrey Tambor in "Transparent" for the honor.

Aziz Ansari especially didn't see this one coming.

In his acceptance speech, Bernal called the award "a really big surprise," thanking the cast and crew of the Amazon Prime series -- especially co-star Lola Kirke, his "new best friend."

Bernal also dedicated the award to the musical community, and anyone who uses music for "communication" and "justice."

The quirky comedy, which centers on the fictional New York Symphony orchestra and its members' ups and downs, saw its second season released Dec. 30. Bernal stars as the group's conductor, a character based on the real-life conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel.
