'Fresh Prince' Star Blasts Jada Pinkett Smith's Oscar Boycott

"You are a part of the system that is unfair to other actors."

To the Smiths!

It appears some people disagree with Jada Pinkett Smith’s decision to boycott the 88 annual Academy Awards.

On Monday, following Pinkett Smith’s announcement that she wouldn't watch or attend the Oscars, former “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star Janet Hubert -- best known as Aunt Viv on the show -- responded to the actress’ decision via a video posted on her Facebook page. In the candid four minute clip, Hubert said that there are more important issues to worry about in the world today than the Academy Awards.

"First of all, Miss Thing, does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak," Hubert said. "And the second thing is, girlfriend, there's a lot of sh*t going on in the world that you all don't seem to recognize. People are dying. Our boys are being shot left and right. People are starving. People are trying to pay bills. And you're talking about some motherf**king actors and Oscars. And it just ain't that deep."

The actress went on to explain how the Smiths are actually part of Hollywood's ongoing problem of not providing opportunities to actors of color.

“Just because the world doesn’t go the way that you want it to go doesn’t mean that you can go out and then you start asking people to stand up and say we can overcome for you,” she said. “You ain’t Barack and Michelle Obama, and y'all need to get over yourselves. You have a huge production company that you only produce your friends, your family and yourself. So you are a part of Hollywood. You are a part of the system that is unfair to other actors. So get real.”

Hubert’s thoughts on the issue didn’t stop there. She even wrote a comment on the video in response to a fan on her Facebook page who said she missed Pinkett Smith’s point:

It’s no secret that Hubert’s distaste for Will Smith runs deep. After she was replaced on “The Fresh Prince” in 1993 due to “creative differences,” the pair have made their lack of admiration for each other public. From Hubert calling Smith “an asshole” and an “egomaniac” in 2011 to Smith claiming at the time of Hubert's removal that she wanted the show to be “The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air Show.”

Perhaps, one day Hubert and Smith will put their differences to the side and reunite. Perhaps...
