Yesterday Was Officially David Bowie Day In New York City

A tribute to the late musician.

New York City -- where the late David Bowie lived for more than 20 years before his death earlier this month -- has officially declared Jan. 20, 2016, to be David Bowie Day.

The Facebook page for the late star announced the news in a post on Wednesday.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Luis Castro -- acting commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment -- was to present the honor at the final performance of "Lazarus," the musical Bowie co-wrote and co-produced which wrapped its extended Off-Broadway run on Wednesday.

Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted about the announcement with Bowie lyrics.

The history-making British musician died at age 69 on Sunday, Jan. 10, after an 18-month battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Iman, their daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones, and his son Duncan Jones from his first marriage to Mary Angela Bowie (née Barnett).
