Chris Christie Gave A Great Answer On Why He's Passionate About Equal Pay For Women

A young woman stood up at a New Hampshire town hall for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) on Thursday to ask what the presidential hopeful would do to address pay disparity between men and women once in office.

Christie gave a heartfelt answer, mentioning his wife and daughters as examples of why he is so passionate about the issue. Despite his personal experience, however, Christie said he doesn't support taking any further legislative action to fix the problem.

"We need to enforce the laws that are on the books. We have plenty of laws on the books now to make sure that women get equal pay for the work that they do," Christie said, echoing standard GOP boilerplate on the issue.

In 2013, Christie actually signed a bill into law in New Jersey banning salary secrecy for employees who are trying to uncover wage discrimination. Democrats have tried to pass a similar bill through the U.S. Senate, but have been stymied by Republicans who claim it would increase civil lawsuits.
