Colgate's Super Bowl 50 ad encouraged viewers to turn off the faucet when they brush their teeth because "every drop counts."
The spot highlighted the struggles of people around the world who don't have ready access to running water, and concluded that every person who turns off the tap could save close to 3,000 gallons of water per year.
A touching, important message of conservation, but for one oversight the Internet eagerly pointed out after it aired: Colgate spent upward of $5 million on the ad.
At a wholesale price of $1.20 per gallon of bottled water, that means the company poured the equivalent of around 4.2 million gallons of bottled water down the drain to tell you not to do the same.
That's 4.2 million gallons that could have theoretically gone to some of the 783 million people worldwide without access to clean water.
