Caitlyn Jenner has had to put up with many small-minded critics since coming out as transgender last year, but her gender identity isn't the only thing she's getting flak for.

In 2015, Jenner also revealed that she was a member of the Republican Party, and "more on the conservative side" -- something she said hasn't been as accepted as her gender.

"I have gotten more flak for being a conservative Republican than I have for being trans," Jenner said at a University of Pennsylvania event on Wednesday night, according to Billy Penn, a local news website.

A student asked Jenner why she wasn't a Democrat, given the party's embrace of marriage equality and LBGT rights.

“Just because you change gender doesn’t mean you change your core beliefs," said Vanity Fair's Buzz Bissinger, who is working on a biography with Jenner and served as interviewer at the event.

Jenner was also asked about a critic who complained she wasn't a good role model.

“Well, I’m not a role model," Jenner said. "I’m so new to this community I don’t expect to be one."
