Movie-Themed Drinks To Toast With At Your Oscars Party This Year

Cheers.

As you get ready to walk the red carpet (from the comfort of our living room sofas) at your Oscars party this year, here's a roundup of delicious cocktails to sip, themed after each of the films nominated in the Best Picture category.

From a Martian-esque tequila sunrise ("The Martian") to a shot of tequila ("The Big Short"), these drinks, concocted for The Huffington Post by Chris Byrne, the bar manager of Refinery Rooftop at the Refinery Hotel in New York City, will win any party (regardless of who takes home the real statue).

Mad Max
Linda Covello
For this drink, Byrne said he made this cocktail to "feel rugged and represent the desert wasteland. The first thing that came to my mind was to create an Armageddon-inspired punch."

2 oz. Tin Cup whiskey
1 oz. Rock & Rye
1 oz. hibiscus tea
1/2 oz. lime juice

Shake all ingredients over ice. Pour into a rock glass. Garnish with an orange peel.
Room
Linda Covello
"I started to make this cocktail by muddling cucumber, to show the struggle that the characters faced in 'Room,'" Byrne said. "The rest of the ingredients and the yellow color represent the fresh start that Joy and her son Jack experienced for the first time."

2 oz. Boodles gin
2 oz. white cranberry juice
1/2 oz. lime juice
1/2 oz. Pimms
Muddled cucumber

Shake all ingredients over ice. Pour into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with cucumber.
Bridge Of Spies
Linda Covello
"This cocktail represents Tom Hanks’ character in 'Bridge of Spies' by looking one way but acting another. While he spies for both the American and the Russians, our cocktail looks like a classic martini, but the smoky, velvet-like flavors of the scotch are undetected to the eye. The lemon garnish also appears to be the bridge where the sky exchange took place."

2 oz. Hangar 1 vodka
1/2 oz. Single malt scotch

Rinse a coupe glass with single malt scotch. Pour out the scotch. Shake vodka on ice and pour into the glass. Garnish with a lemon peel.
The Martian
Linda Covello
"The signature cocktail here is reminiscent of the planet Mars and the color orange," Byrne said. "I used 1800 Tequila to represent Matt Damon’s character’s bravery and masculinity on his mission."

2 oz. 1800 silver tequila
1/2 oz. lime juice
2 oz. blood orange puree
Top with ginger beer

Shake tequila, lime, and blood orange liqueur over ice. Top with ginger beer. Garnish with orange wedge.
Spotlight
Linda Covello
"To bring the themes of 'Spotlight' from the screen to the glass I’ve combined Italian almond syrup with American whiskey and topped the cocktail with a Malbec red wine," Byrne said.

1 oz. American whiskey
1/2 oz. Italian almond syrup
1/2 oz. lime juice
2 oz. Malbec

Shake whiskey, almond syrup and lime juice with ice. Strain into a rocks glass and float Malbec on the top of the cocktail.
Brooklyn
Linda Covello
"This cocktail celebrates the Irish heritage of the star’s heroine, Eilis Lacey," played by Saoirse Ronan, Byrne said. "I used green tea to change the color of the color to green, to bring a bit of her culture to the cocktail. I also wanted the cocktail to taste refreshing and new, like her arrival in Brooklyn."

2 oz. Boodles gin
1/2 oz. rosemary simple syrup
1/2 oz. lemon juice
1 oz. green tea
1 egg white

Shake all ingredients over ice. Pour into a coupe glass. Garnish with sprig of rosemary.
The Revenant
Linda Covello
"Inspired by the wilderness, I decided to use fresh ingredients to bring 'The Revenant' to life," Byrne said, mixing Tin Cup whiskey with strawberries "to play with the spice and pepper notes in the whiskey and the sweet fruit" and garnishing with mint leaves "as a nod to the forest."

2 oz. Tin Cup whiskey
1/2 oz. lemon juice
3 strawberries
muddled mint

Shake all ingredients over ice. Strain well. Pour into rocks glass and garnish with a mint leaves.
The Big Short
Linda Covello
"This film is all about greed and money, and what better way to toast the luxury lifestyle than with Reserva de la Familia, an extra añejo tequila best known as the high-end member of the Jose Cuervo family," Byrne said.

2 oz. Reserva de la Familia served neat in a champagne glass alongside an orange cube sprinkled with cinnamon
