Donald Trump Triumphs In Liberal Vermont

Professional entertainer and aspiring tyrant-king Donald Trump won Vermont's Republican primary on Super Tuesday.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich fared well, compared with Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-Fla.) showing.

With a more liberal bent than in other states, Vermont's Republicans offered the somewhat more moderate Kasich his best chance for a strong showing against Rubio in a battle for second place. Neither had much chance against Trump.

In a show of force in Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders' home state, the Trump campaign staged an event in Burlington in January, issuing 20,000 tickets for a venue that could hold only 1,400. When protesters disrupted his speech, Trump told security to kick them out and not let them have their coats.

"His behavior was needlessly cruel," wrote The Atlantic's Conor Friedersdorf, who noted the freezing temperature outside.

Polling was scant prior to Super Tuesday, but one survey from mid-February gave Trump 33 percent of likely voters, compared with 15 percent for Rubio and 14 percent for Kasich.

Mitt Romney won nine delegates in the 2012 Vermont Republican primary, while Rick Santorum and Ron Paul each won four.

This cycle, the state has 16 GOP delegates, which are awarded proportionally.
