Call it kismet, call it coincidence, call it good timing. It doesn't matter what you call it, but Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner both happen to be on press tours for upcoming films. And that means both stars have started opening up about their split after 10 years of marriage.
Last month, Garner broke her silence on the their separation in a candid and revealing interview with Vanity Fair. After a profile like that, it doesn't seem like there would be much left to say on the subject, but "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie knew viewers would want to know more about the "Miracles From Heaven" star's post-Affleck life.
"People have been so kind to my whole family, and we really do appreciate it," the 43-year-old actress told Guthrie on Wednesday. "But, you know what, we're doing really well. Thank you. The kids are great. They'll be getting up in the morning and going to school soon, and Ben is there and he'll be taking them. We will make it work."
Of course, Garner's situation isn't that different from anyone else out there going through a separation or divorce, hers is just happening on a public stage. When Guthrie noted that it must be difficult to "go through something like that in the public eye," Garner once again reminded everyone why she's so particularly beloved.
"You know what? It's not easy to go through it, period. I have found going through it in the public eye, it's just another facet of it. For anyone, when your life shifts in any way, it's tricky enough," Garner explained. "But I have found people to be so warm and loving that it hasn't been nearly as bad as you might imagine."
Meanwhile, Garner isn't the only one talking about the breakup. Affleck spoke of of their split for the first time in an interview with the New York Times this week and he only had good things to say.
"Jen’s great. She’s a great person. We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in," he told the newspaper, later going on to say that he wasn't bothered by her comments in Vanity Fair.
"It’s fine. She’s allowed to talk about it," he said.
On Wednesday, Affleck went on to further speak of how he and and Garner are still on good terms, telling Ellen DeGeneres, "We're good friends and we're doing our best and our kids are fabulous and we're working our best for them."
