'Sex And The City' Creator Says He Wanted Alec Baldwin For Mr. Big

"Sex and the City" could have looked a whole lot different if creator Darren Star had his way.

Star threw fans for a loop when he revealed the actors he'd originally wanted to cast as Carrie Bradshaw's love interests.

"I was thinking of Alec Baldwin for Big initially [in 'Sex and the City']," Star said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "I don’t really watch 'Law & Order,' but I met with Chris Noth and thought he was perfect. I remember the first table read, how good he was. I'm not saying that Chris was Mr. Big, but he brought a lot of his own persona to the role ... "

Baldwin and Bradshaw? We can't even think about the drama those two would've gone through. But Star also said that he originally had someone else in mind for Carrie's other major relationship -- Aidan.

"We initially were thinking about Aidan Quinn for Aidan, but I think he wasn’t available," the creator told EW. "I loved John Corbett in 'Northern Exposure,' and we were like, 'Well, what's John Corbett been up to?' He just had the laconic, dudish vibe. But we kept 'Aidan' because we loved the name."

"SATC" would have felt like an entirely different show. But as Star said in a previous interview with Kindle Singles in January, actress Lisa Edelstein was poised to take the role of Carrie if Sarah Jessica Parker couldn't do the series.

"I was either going to do it or not," Edelstein said on a February episode of "Access Hollywood Live." "It all depended on whether [Parker] said yes. My contract was complete. I was waiting."
