Vanessa Hudgens speaks about the loss of her father, Gregory, in the latest issue of People magazine. Hudgens' dad died in January of this year after battling stage 4 cancer.

"There are highs and there are lows," Hudgens said, crediting her mother's strength for getting her through this tough time. "It sucks, but death happens. It never makes it easier but it happens to all of us. It's just something we have to get through until we all meet again in heaven."

The actress added, "Life is about perspective. The way you choose to see your life is the way your life is going to become."

Hudgens lost her father only hours before she was set to appear in Fox's "Grease: Live," and dedicated the show to him. The "High School Musical" star ended up giving one of the best performances of her career, drawing praise and support from the likes of Demi Lovato, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ashley Tisdale and more.
