WASHINGTON -- Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) feels like he's living in a bit of a fantasy world these days.
After Donald Trump won the Indiana primary earlier this week, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich -- his only remaining challengers for the Republican Party's nomination -- dropped out of the race. The business mogul is now the GOP's presumptive nominee.
"A couple of times a day I have to remind myself that Donald Trump is the Republican nominee," Reid said Thursday during a call with reporters. "It hasn’t sunk it yet with me, but that’s the truth. That’s the reality."
Reid has dedicated a number of floor speeches to railing against Trump, who supports building a border wall and banning Muslims from entering the U.S. And the senator doesn't plan to stop speaking out about Trump's policy proposals.
“Trump is the leader that the Republican Party deserves,” Reid said, adding that the GOP has "nominated an anti-woman, anti-Hispanic, anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant billionaire who inherited his wealth and rigs the system."
"Trump is the definition of a man who was born on third and thinks he hit a triple," Reid continued.
Reid, who isn't running for re-election this year, said he hopes a Republican ticket headed by Trump could give Democrats the fuel they need to win back the Senate.
