For years rumors have circulated about Whitney Houston's sexuality and now Bobby Brown is claiming they were true.

US Weekly reports that in the singer's new memoir, Every Little Step, Houston's ex-husband confirms that the late pop star was bisexual.

“I know,” Brown told the magazine in regards to the alleged romance between Houston and her friend and assistant Robyn Crawford. “We were married for 14 years. There are some things we talked about that were personal to us.”

Houston met Crawford when she was 16 and the pair were soon inseparable.

Whispers about their relationship followed them throughout Houston's career, but the "I Will Always Love You" singer repeatedly denied she was queer.

“Listen, I took a lot of grief for shit that wasn’t me, OK, ‘cause I had friends, ‘cause I was close to people,” Houston told Out in 2000. “But that ain’t me. I know what I am. I’m a mother. I’m a woman. I’m heterosexual. Period.”

She added, "My mother raised me to never, ever be ashamed of what I am. But I’m not a lesbian, darling. I’m not [laughs].”

Cissy Houston, the pop star's mother, responded to the claims in her own memoir in 2013, saying that she "just didn't want [Crawford] with her daughter" and that she knew "nothing about a romantic relationship." That same year she told Oprah she "absolutely" would have disapproved of Houston being a lesbian.

Brown told US Weekly he believes that if Houston's relationship with Crawford had been recognized, things may have ended up differently for the late singer, who died in 2012 after experiencing a "cardiac event."

“I really feel that if Robyn was accepted into Whitney’s life, Whitney would still be alive today,” Brown says. “She didn’t have close friends with her anymore.”

The Advocate notes that Crawford, who is openly gay and married with children, has never addressed her alleged same-sex relationship with Houston.

Brown's memoir is available on June 13.
