Yogis, unite!

In honor of the summer solstice -- the longest day of the year -- yogis from around the world have gathered to celebrate the 14th annual Mind Over Madness Yoga event in Times Square.

Cultures from around the world associate the summer solstice with the renewal of mind, body, spirit and creative expression. This connection inspired co-founders Tim Tompkins and Douglass Stewart to create an event that celebrates our ability to connect with the universe through yoga.

"Times Square serves as a metaphor for our crazy urban lives," said Tompkins in the HuffPost video below. While it can be challenging to stay focused and grounded anywhere, it can be even more challenging to do so in the epicenter of a city like New York.

This year’s event took place all day, with different instructors from around the city and eight free classes beginning every other hour.

Even if you missed the event, it's not too late: International Yoga Day is tomorrow, June 21. Take a moment to slow down, pull out your mat and find your inner peace.
