Donald Trump's Latest Swipe Against Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes No Sense

But then again, his knowledge of the Supreme Court and the Constitution is limited at best.

Like he did shortly after midnight on Wednesday, Donald Trump later that day used his Twitter platform again to take a jab at Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Supreme Court justice who has assailed his candidacy in recent days.

But instead of calling for her resignation or suggesting she’s mentally unfit — trust us, she’s far from it — the celebrity real estate magnate offered this:

On its face, the tweet is incomprehensible: How does one swamp someone with judges and opinions? And how is Ginsburg anything but a real judge who has written hundreds of real legal decisions with important precedential value for more than two decades?

Could it be Trump made a typo and wants to “swap” her with someone else, which he can’t constitutionally do? Is he suggesting impeachment, which no one so far has dared propose, because it would likely go nowhere?

Or maybe he just wants to “swamp” her in the sense of “packing” the court with justices of his liking ― like Franklin D. Roosevelt tried in the 1930s when he was really upset with a Supreme Court that wouldn’t side with his New Deal policies. Maybe Trump wants to silence her that way?

Who knows. In any event, all of these possibilities seem way too sophisticated for someone who very recently said he’d protect an article of the Constitution that doesn’t even exist, and made a number of proposals that would certainly make the founding fathers shudder.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims ― 1.6 billion members of an entire religion ― from entering the U.S.
