Mike Pence Flip-Flops, Aligns With Trump On Immigrant Ban

He now apparently believes “we’ve got to find out what’s going on."

As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together.

So it’s only fitting that within hours of being named Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) pulled one of his running mate’s favorite moves.

Back in December, after Trump famously called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” Pence tweeted this:

On Friday evening, however, during a lengthy interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Pence’s stance on the issue suddenly lined up with Trump’s. (You may recall that Trump backpedaled his proposed ban in June, saying he only wanted to focus on “people coming from the terror states.”)

Speaking to Hannity, Pence said, “I am very supportive of Donald Trump’s call to temporarily suspend immigration from countries where terrorist influence and impact represents a threat to the United States.”

Pence added that he’s never hesitated to take issue with fellow Republicans when he disagrees with them. On this particular point, however, he said Trump is right that “we’ve got to find out what’s going on and we’ve got to do something different.”

“Donald Trump is right in calling for a temporary suspension [of refugees] from countries that have been compromised by terrorist influence,” he said. “There’s no question it’s the right view.”

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
