Selena Quintanilla is getting the full Hollywood treatment.
Just weeks after the Hollywood Walk of Fame announced the Queen of Tejano Music would be honored with her own star, Madame Tussauds Hollywood is set to immortalize the icon in wax.
In a press release on Monday, the wax museum explained their decision to create a wax figure in Selena’s honor and gave fans a sneak peek. The figure will be unveiled at a rooftop celebration at Madame Tussauds Hollywood on August 30.
“At Madame Tussauds, our figures represent icons who have made a significant impact on our culture,” Colin Thomas, general manager at Madame Tussauds Hollywood, said. “That perfectly describes Selena. Her influence has transcended generations and her passionate fans continue to be inspired by her to this day. We recognize this and in response, we are proud to join her fans in celebrating her legacy by immortalizing her.”
Madame Tussauds sculptors worked with the Quintanilla family to create the wax figure, working with them to recreate Selena’s iconic pose, expression, hairstyle, makeup and wardrobe. The wax figure is set to be dressed in a recreation of her outfit from her concert at Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi, Texas on Feb. 7, 1993.
Last year, a Change.org petition was created to persuade Madame Tussauds Hollywood to create a wax figure in honor of the Grammy-winning artist. Nearly 10,000 people signed the petition. While the wax museum made no reference to fans’ pleas in their statement, it’s safe to say they just made thousands of people very happy.
