This Photo Shows How Devastating Trump’s Words Can Be To A Kid

"Trump will separate us."

In a heart-wrenching Facebook post, one grandmother showed just how harmful Donald Trump’s hateful rhetoric can be to the kids who hear it.

Author Anne Lamott shared a poignant Facebook post Wednesday where she recounted a conversation she had with her 7-year-old grandson Jax. “Last night, watching the RNC, he said that Trump will separate us, because Trump hates Mexicans, and Jax is Mexican,” she wrote.

Lamott said in the post that she reassured her grandson that they would not be separated. However, there remain many, many children who still fear that they will be torn away from a loved one.

Trump’s campaign is producing an alarming level of fear and anxiety among children of color, many of whom worry they or a loved one will be deported, according to a report by the nonprofit Southern Poverty Law Center titled “The Trump Effect: The Impact of the Presidential Campaign on our Nation’s Schools.”

Lamott’s post came one day after two of Trump’s own children talked about how their father will help make America great again at the Republican National Convention. However, as Lamott’s post indicates, Trump has only really succeeded in making America hate and fear again… and again... and again. And there’s nothing great about that.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
